Child products & stockable variants again (product hooks & sets)

Sorry if the answer is obvious...

Situation: we have products and we want to hook to them some additional products with no charge (to be exact we have gliders and want to give customer few paragliding courses as a bonus)
As he add the glider to the cart we want to push associated products into cart too.
To be exact I want to achieve so called products sets.

Besides I don't know exact role of child products (nevertheless I thought I know ), I supposed this could be the solution I'm looking for. Seems it is not. Seems I really don't know the role of parent/childs except I'm able with little coding show them in detail 
So I tried stockable variant plugin, but with no luck.
Besides I can't edit Options and Values in customfield definition (they remains empty after save), after adding some stockable variants there's an error in stockable.php 187 in foreach.

Well I would be glad for any advice how to handle this situation without dealing with code.
