VirtueMart for bigger shops?

Hi all,
I have seen some discussions about the performance of VirtueMart and wonder if anyone have tested VM on a bigger shop.

The actual shop is a shop with

• 8.000 products (each with 3-5 images, text, and approx 30% of them also have a video)
• 80-100.000 visitors per month
• 400.000 - 700.000 page views per month (today it is 1.5 - 1.8 million page views per month, but that is due to a lot of other type of info is in the shop and that will be separated later)

The shop is created using old ecommerce software with lots of extra coding, and we are to convert it to something new.

We are today using Magento when doing bigger shops but before starting this project I thought I would ask if you think it would be possible to do it in VirtueMart.

If you think it would work, I'll make a testshop with 10.000 products and simulate some heavy traffic to see what happends, but if you say "don't bother" I'll just use Magento again. Don't want to spend the time doing the testshop if I can get info already now that it will not be a good solution.

Any comments on this would be appreciated
