How can I activate Joomla Template in Virtuemart?

I bought and uploaded a Joomla/Virtumart template into the same file manager directory as the default Joomla templates (atomic, beez, etc.) but unfortunately the uploaded unzipped file is not showing up in the Template Manager as the rest. Can anyone explain to me how to activate it or make it show up for use in virtuemart? I have spent countless hours searching this forum and google but to no avail.

If you are using Joomla 1.7.x and bought a 1.7.x compatible template, make shure you also copied the xml file into the correct directory and don't forget to click on "Discover". In J1.6.x and higher you normally use the Joomla Extension manager to install a template. If you still seem to miss something, there are plenty of video tutorials about how to install a template in J1.7.x if you search in Google videos.

Thanks for the explanation. I am using Joomla 1.7/Virtuemart 2 and the template indicated that it's compatible. Only problem now is I am unable to locate the "Discover." I uploaded the entire zip file to Administrator/component/template. It's there with the other Joomla templates but when I could not see when I go to configuration in Joomla or virtuemart to set up my default template.

Joomla Administration - Extension Manager - Manage - Select "Templates" from the 'Select Type' dropdown menu - 'Discover' tab.
