Small VM Issue

When somebody adds an item to the cart and then presses checkout, it sends them to the old domain name.

The URL is domain.comindex.php?page=checkout.index&ssl_redirect=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=215

when I press checkout on the new domain it sends me to the old domain, I checked the headers and it says 303 HTTP/1.1 303 See other

You need to go to virtuemart configuration to change the domain.

components/virtuemart/admin/configuration/security tab

also, if you have a sef component, like artio, ace, or sh404,   purge their caches, check you config file for joomla to make sure the live site url is correct, if using a htaccess file, make sure there are no directives there that could redirect to the old domian
