Hi,

just curious - recently (after the move to Rochen?) I frequently can't connect to the virtuemart.net pages. Especially during the evening hours (Middle European Time) I often get:

"The connection has timed out
The server at virtuemart.net is taking too long to respond."
- occationally for several hours.
Am I the only one or do some of you encounter the same?

No, same here, very annoying and it happens every day and several times a day to different times, not only in the evening hours.

EDIT: It was just away for several hours again.

Whenever I think somebody might have solved this problem it happens again.  ;)
A problem with the server or just a corrupt database???

This time VirtueMart was offline before I went to bed and still or again offline after breakfast the next day.

Here are some (error) messages I see:

It's me again  ;)
I really wonder what is going on there  ??? Today I couldn't access virtuemart.net for approximately 7 hours (Note: No new forum messages for a 7 hour period). Is the server unable to handle the traffic or does somebody from the Dev-Team set the database (unintentionally) offline frequently or is a slow Redmine blocking the whole site???

Todays errors:
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.
Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL

redMine 500 error

I'm getting exactly the same.  There's obviously a major issue somewhere.  I run a web hosting company and I know my customers would be at threatening all manor of things by now if this was happening to their websites.

yepp, as you said, the developer page moved to an own server. Should be better now. I think as we can see it is better.

@Milbo,

yes the VM forum page seems to work better now but the developer portal is nearly inaccessible.

Forgot to mention that Rochen says they are the performance hosting leader. That may be slightly different from reliable hosting leader. If it works (sometimes!) it is fast.

:D...perhaps Wikileaks is hosted on Rochen servers  :-X Would at least be an excuse. However, today the Joomla forum seems to have similar problems like VM in recent days.

oh this is interesting, in fact we thought rochen does cloud based hosting, but they do not. We are now looking for a cloud based solution.

Todays errors:
jtablesession::Store Failed DB function failed with error number 2006 MySQL server has gone away SQL=INSERT INTO `jos_session` ( `session_id`,`time`

when visiting virtuemart.net

Is Rochens MySQL server away for christmas holidays?

jjk

I did see the above error message too most of today. I found a long thread in the siteground forum with the same error message dating 2008. At the end they said that this was not an easy one to solve and it took them 2 weeks to come up with a solution. However, they didn't say what went wrong or how they solved the problem.

At a first glance I would guess Joomla isn't closing a table in the database or php memory isn't sufficient???
