Negative shopper group discounts

[Sorry, would have posted in bug tracker but can't get in - besides, not sure if it's a bug or...]

If I put in a product price of 3 and a negative discount for the default shopper group of -1400 (or -1500) I would expect to see the price on the front end as $45. Instead I see $33.

Why would I do this (if you're wondering)? My 'products' are hours based (e.g. 3 hours) and my hourly rate $15.

When I go back to edit the shopper group the discount is -999,99 so it may be a field width issue.
