Delete hidden remains of product image

Although this topic was earlier discussed I now have an additional problem.
The system is on Joomla 5.0.2 and Virtuemart 4.2.4.
If I delete a product and the related image, including the image in "stories/virtuemart/product" and "stories/virtuemart/product/resized" and afterwords import the product with a "new" image, but the same "old" image name, this "old" image shows up as the thumb image in the product details. How can I completely delete the "old" image and its remains.
