anyone know of a plugin to do bulk import into virtuemart for free? running the latest joomla 4.x

joozen

I don't think there is good free option. I used JMigrator. It costs some dollars but it's does the job as well.

Can you tell me, since the documentation doesn't seem to specify, if RO CSVI for VM will import products with Multi-Variants, children, multiple prices for quantity discounts?

In other words, import 100% of what capabilities that VM has?

I have a very large project with thousands of products. I'd like to work on the products to create a CSV file to import everything. I'd export from VM to get the field information, complete the cells and then import everything.

Is this software designed for that sort of import?

Same questions for you, @Joozen
I'd be interested to know if there are limitations for the import software.

Thanks.

You found this? https://rolandd.com/documentation/ro-csvi/virtuemart/importing-multi-variant-custom-field

I use Breakdesigns stockable custom fields for variants and import everything I need with RO CSVI, works well.

RO CSVI can literally do anything. When products have dozens of custom fields, manually adding them directly to Virtuemart is just for masochists. CSVI imports and exports CSV, Excel, XML, etc.

Personally, I have several large stores, which I modify in a Google Spreadsheet and from it export whatever I want to Virtuemart

Could you elaborate? What is your setup like? This info could be of use to many people in the community. Thanks.

Nothing extraordinary. You manage your store directly in spreadsheets – for example, in Google Sheets. When dealing with hundreds of parameters that need constant modifications, working directly in the VirtueMart panel is nearly impossible – you'd simply get lost in the mess and drown in the chaos. That's why I maintain the entire database in Google Sheets, where I can easily collaborate online with my team. Employees can also make real-time updates, ensuring everything stays organized and up to date. Updating the store in VirtueMart? That's just a matter of importing the sheet through Ro CSVI, which takes only a few seconds.

Google Sheets also provides automatic translation features, making it a valuable tool for multilingual stores (and other valuable rules that automatically calculate everything). Managing this manually in VirtueMart would be unimaginable, especially considering how chaotic it becomes when handling a large number of custom fields. Sometimes, these fields even disappear after saving a product, making direct work within VirtueMart not just inefficient but also frustrating. With spreadsheets, everything is structured, backed up, and easily manageable – a lifesaver for any serious store.

Of course, this is not a criticism of VirtueMart—quite the opposite! I truly appreciate this component, mainly because with basic programming knowledge, you can achieve almost anything you need. It just requires a bit of effort and willingness to explore its full potential.
