Get custom field value in category layout

I have a custom field which does not show up in the category layout. Only if I set the custom field to cart attribute it will show up. But I don't want that.

Is there some kind of way maybe with the product modeel or something to get the custom field value of a custom field in the category layout without having to set the custom field cart attribute to Yes?
