What VM & Joomla version etc. ?

Joomla 3.10.11 and Virtuemart 4.0.6

I tried setting a default template, but then the issue still arises.

If i make a direct menu item of an article it does work, but when it is part of a category layout it does not work. It just gets redirected with a # sign on the end of the url

Should I try to install 4.0.7? I'm splitting hairs right now

But you did not answer most important question. What happened? I assume it worked before, so why it suddenly stopped working? The update to vm4.0.6? update of joomla? Maybe from j4 to j4.2?

I updated Virtuemart because I want to. swtich over to PHP8. Unfortunately I ran into a lot of issues with PHP 8 (lots of error 500 without any apparent error log lines) so I swtiched back to 7.4. But these newer versions of Virtuemart had all kinds of issues. 4.0.4 had issues with updating orders from guests, but that was fixed in 4.0.6 but that gave me error in adding products to cart. Fortunately the 4.0.7 fixed this issue. So for now I'm still debugging why PHP8 isn't working correctly, but at least everything seems to be working fine now on 7.4
