Split sitemaps for thousands of products

Google has limits on a single URL sitemap, specifically:

All formats limit a single sitemap to 50MB (uncompressed) and 50,000 URLs. If you have a larger file or more URLs, you will have to break your list into multiple sitemaps.

Our store has 70k+ products, and we manually split the sitemap into 2 XML files every time we make changes to products.

Is there an automated solution to that?

(I couldn't even find an automated way to split the sitemap file into two, I have to do it "by hand")
