Do I need a module to do this?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about opening an e-shop and I just found out about VirtueMart.

What I'd like to do is something like this, with search filters and product comparision.

My question is: can I do that with vanilla VirtueMart, or do I need to install paid modules? According to its source code, the site I provided as an example is made with Joomla and VirtueMart, but I don't know whether they used modules or not.

From your use of terminology I guess you are not an experienced Joomla user. 
Yes, the website you link to does use Joomla with VirtueMart, although that site uses older versions.
The VirtueMart extension for Joomla includes all you need for a good webstore, but there are VM extensions available to extend the functions. There two plugins provide the type of additional function you describe:

You have cherry picker too. But i don't know if the project is last Vm3 compatible.
