1st Item added to shopping cart leaves cart empty

Using VirtueMart 3.014 on Joomla 3.5.1
When I select an item to purchase and then "Add to Cart" I get the popup "1 x item added to your cart, Continue Shopping, Show Cart".

I click on "Show Cart" and it comes back, "Cart Empty".  If I continue shopping, it works fine , it's just the first item.  Obviously I am concerned customers are not going to have the patience to try again and just assume it doesn't work. 

Must be noted, tested this and had no problem on localhost.  I have just moved this to my production host and the issue has just appeared.

Any ideas on why the 1st purchase says it's in the cart, but the cart thinks it's empty?

If using Joomla 3.5.1 then you should use VirtueMart 3.0.16 - http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files
or patch you current version:  http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=133760.0

Not sure if that will solve you problem, though.

Make sure u try with all and any (incl. server) caching off
