Conflict between new Multi Variant and Child Item tab

My config:
VM 3.0.6.2
Joomla 3.4.0

I use the new Multi Variant custom field for displaying the child items dropdown.
When editing a parent product, the 'Child Items' tab does not show. This means I cannot change the order of the child items.

My problem is solved when I disable the Multi Variant under custom fields. Then the 'Child Items' tab reappears.
So I have a workaround for editing my items, no real urgency here.

I just want to point out a possible conflict between the Multi Variant plugin and the 'Child Items' tab in this configuration. Hope it gets fixed in a next release!

The opposite case is it. It took me some time to disable the other tab. I wonder why you want to change the position? At the end the values in the Matrix counts.

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing here so I'm attaching a screendump.

I mean I have to physically delete the Multi Variant custom field from a product to be able to see/edit the child items tab.

Yes, because the multivariant has its own tab. You may also compare the custom layout of vm3.0.0 and latest vm3.0.6, ... You miss only, that you cannot change the order, which is set by the Matrix. So you can do the same, it is maybe not that handy.

I'm not sure what "Set by the matrix" means, or why it needs to take away functionality we already had. I'd finally gotten the products to display in the correct order, by reordering the child products on VM 2, and now I can't do that anymore.
When you have size options, it looks awful if they display L, M, XL, XS, S instead of XS, S, M, L, XL.  Additionally, looking through products that display in some random order in the back-end as things are added or subtracted gets very unwieldy.
As you add and delete products, there's no way to keep them straight unless you can actually reorder them.
Please tell me something is being done about this?
  Thank you for your consideration.

I just notcied this same problem when setting up lots of parent/child products using multivariants.

The Child tab, is needed to order child products for the exact same reason explained by ZoBabe "it looks awful if they display L, M, XL, XS, S instead of XS, S, M, L, XL"
