Child product issues

I have seen so many issues regarding Child product issues, but none that seem to help. I must have something setup wrong but have followed instructions, videos and blogs and not got it right yet.

I am using VM 2.6.10 and JM 2.5.27

I have a few products that have different weight options. I would like to have a "Parent product" that leads you into the item which is NOT orderable and then the dropdowns in the "product" listing the varying weights. Should be simple but....

If i set the parent product as not orderable in the Custom Fields, which would make sense my "Add to cart" button is replaced by a button that says "Click here for size options" and is not actually clickable (the mouse shows as a red No Entry sign when hovered over it.) see attachement.

Also with it setup like this i get a price in the category view and an option to "Add to Cart" which shouldnt be there at all. The dropdown options work fine in the product flypage.

I am sorry if this has been asked a thousand times but i just cant get it to work right - it was easy with VM 1 !!

Pretty sure it is down to your template.. try with beez temporarily to see how it should work.

Native VM2 doesn't have add to cart on the cat pages - and a lot of templates that do handle it very badly..

On the product details page seems to work fine

Thanks for your suggestions, unfortunately there arent any other templates installed but i have asked the template company who are always excellent with their help so fingers crossed.

As that site is now live i have the test site setup the same except this product is set as "parent not orderable" so you can see it doesnt work properly and in the category listing you can see that the parent IS orderable

but now its just a labelling issue -- the label should read - click ABOVE for a size option
then when u do it becomes a add to cart

Yes - and the cat view is simply wrong - I'm sure Ali at flexibleweb will fix it (I used to work for him.. give my regards    )

the only thing is the text (that now says) "PLEASE SELECT A SIZE OPTION" is linked to the text inside the dropdown box so it will say the same as it, so i cant change the text on the Orange button to say "select size option above" - any suggestions re this ?

Flexibleweb are brilliant yes i have linked to this post so he will see it, i started here as i thought this was a VM issue rather than the template.

Hi! Can anyone explain me how to set up the parent product NOT orderable ?
