hide categories on main page?

Hi, I have built a ecommerce site, specifically on virtuemart so my home page (landing page) is virtuemarts home page.
Is there anyway to hide the categories as I already have a menu system in place so don't need the categories displayed on home page as clutters it up.

edit components/com_virtuemart/views/virtuemart/tmpl/default.php and use as an over ride template

Just use joomla as your main page and use a menu in any position to link to virtuemart products. use an article as a front page and put what you like there?

Disable just the categories in the vm config? or do I mix it up with vm3?
