adding a price on child product variant field

hi there, for some reason i cannot add a price to an attribute thats listed on a child product without clicking "Overwrite plugin values of the parent" however, if i click that one of my attributes that is a cart variant and controls the child products then disables itself - how do i add prices without clicking on the overwrite plugin values please? much help needed!

sorry to bump but this must be a common problem when prices cant be added to child product custom fields - anyone know the answer?

Sorry to bump yet again but can anyone give me an answer - you cannot add a price to attributes unless you overwrite the parent attributes this seems a little bonkers from a development point of view?
