thanks it got the virtuemart »virtueMart Categories Layout working
but not the virtueMart » Category Layout working

so the products are still not showing up

To display products, first in Config/Templates/Shopfront settings you should have "Category Layout " set to "no override"

And in the Joomla menu item for Category Layout  under Required Settings the Page layout should also be "no override".

Then if you need to make overrides you can start with a configuration that works and displays categories and products.  You can try other variations of the settings to see what happens.

Yes i have read it, tried various permutations but still no joy,
have set
category layout is set to categories in VM
category layout to override in VM
and done the same in the menu still no joy

Maybe you need to set your language in the vm config? Maybe it is not a problem of the view?
