How to use Manufacturer Categories?

Hi,

is there any purpose of using Manufacturer Categories? There is an option to add categories. I need to link to different types (categories) of Manufacturers but didn't find any option for usage of categories? Has anyone an idea how to handle this?

seems to be, that manufacturer categories are useless (at the moment / J2.5 / 2.0.22c )

They could be useful for backend administration at this time. That's all.

The only use is to sort the manufaturers by categories. No filtering options. No batch options. No combining those categories with product categories. No linking to menues. No use at least for me at the moment.

You could use custom fields and groups of custom fields.
