Hide "Add to Cart" until options are choosen

On my items page, there is a qty box and then an add to cart. The options for the product only show up on the PRODUCT DETAILS page. So, I need to solve this by one or two ways:
1. Show the options on the items page along with the qty field, When the options are chosen the add to cart button becomes active
2. Hi the "add to cart" button altogether and make the visitor go to details page to choose quantity. I prefer #1

The default VirtueMart structure does not include an add to cart button on the category (product listing) page, and where there are options on the product details page the add to cart button is not active, and shows "Choose a product variant first" (obviosly that text can be changed). Only when an option is selected is the add to cart button displayed.

You are using a commercial template where the developer has changed the default VM function. So you should really ask them about this as we can have no idea what changes they made.  http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=108212.0
