Stockable Variants Limit to number of children?

I have a product with 132 variants. It is a Knee high boot that comes in shoe sizes, calf sizes and calf heights. I have similar products with around 20 variants and used the same custom field with no problem, however after applying all the correct values and clicking save, all of the values revert back to default. Is there a limit to how many products I can have as stockable variants??
