No error message or field tag displaying on VM2 shopper registration form

In my shop, launched recently, I thought that the Registration Form (when setting up oneself for Checkout) would go into a loop because, after filling in all the fields and clicking on 'Register and Checkout', it would reload the page with the form again. Only after toying with an idea that the password must be alphanumeric, and entering a password as such, did I get past the form and to the payment confirmation steps, but the previous attempts would not show up an error message that the password format was incorrect.

Also, to try and temporarily combat this problem, I added a short description for the Password field that it must contain letters and numbers, but that tag doesn't display on the form either.

Any tips would be appreciated.
