What's the best way to add Itemid in pop up 'show cart' link

Hello Guys,
as you know, modules in joomla is related with Itemid, may i know what the best way to add Itemid in pop up 'show cart' link ? i know i can write manually on controller/cart.php , but this changes could be gone if i update my virtuemart in the future
