Custom Extension Tutorial

Hi,

I'm looking to develop a configurator for VM2 and need some gentle nudges in terms of extension development and design guidelines.  Can anyone share some links to documentation that will help get me going?  I'm looking specifically for how a product builder or configurator extension needs to interact with the VM database tables, and what coding guidelines are suggested for development of such an extension.  Thanks much for your help and guidance.

Why don't you use the already existent Product Builder extension?
