The actual VM router creates partially very long url for example if a product is in a subcategory. Did take a look into other Shop Systems and did see, that Magento for example has a very smart router, shortening the url dramatically. Instead of using canonical and other things, like VM 2 does, they consequently show the canonical url of a product without any category. For example: VM 2 produces for a camera xyz, which resides in a main category multimedia and the subcategory digital camera the following url: .../multimedia/digital camera/camera-xyz-details.html. Magento would show the full path information for example until category product listing. If I click on a product there, it does not show the path with all the category segments. It changes to: .../camera-xyz-details.html and hides the rest of the url i.e. category/subcategory/..
