Change custom field by clicking image

Hi All

I'm using VM2 and it's all going nicely but I would like to be able to allow visitors to click on an image to set a custom field.

For example:

There are thumbnails for available bear colours.

Below is a dropdown for choosing the bear colour.  I would like people to be able to click on the 'Baby Pink' thumbnail and for the drop down to automatically change to select Baby Pink.

I've searched and I think this is possible using Javascript but I'm just not familiar enough with Javascript to implement it.

If someone could help then I'd be most grateful.

why not use custom field type "image"  ??
