Assign Shopper Group at Registration on VM 2.0.10

We use VM 2.0.10 on Joomla 2.5.6 with PHP 5.3.17.

This has been asked often, but never satisfactorily answered.

I have a client who would like to have a registration form that automatically assigns a shopper group to those people who use it.
This would be separate from the registration form that the general public uses, where the shopper group is default.

Should I just create a separate registration form using Joomla's registration.php and the xml file or is there a way to configure the current registration forms for a drop down list of shopper groups?

We don't allow guests to checkout without registration.
We plan to authenticate new registrations with an email confirmation link.

Thank you.

There must be a waqy to make this work. I saw a post in the VM1.X forum where you have a custom field in registration and then that is passed to the backend where it automagically sets the usergroup. It should be very simple really. Anybody have any ideas.

Thanks

Did you ever get any answer on this? I am also looking for an way to do this!

I also really need to do this - if anyone has any ideas greatly appreciated.

In my case it could be in the standard registration form as every single user of our site has to be assigned a shopper group - it's not a public shop.

I already have AJAX register which gives me extra fields, drop downs etc in the registration form but I can't see how to get the shopper groups into that.  In this case each shopper group is a different school - at the moment we can have them choose their school from a drop down list but then we have to manually assign them to the corresponding group.

I would also like to be able to send email notices to the shopper groups independantly but I will start another thread for that!

I'm on VM 2.0.18, Joomla 2.5.9

Any help greatly appreciated!

Well, the system tells me it's been 120 days since I posted this request.
It ought to be fairly simple to have a registration form with a drop down menu of shopper groups.

I have begun migrating my clients to WordPress and WooCommerce because they create and maintain the tools required to do simple tasks such as this one.

Checking 3rd party forum and contacting developers of custom extensions for VM groups is the way to go in such cases.

The truth was always nearby ... in the nearest forum section.
