How to Contribute

I am running version 2.0.6.

I have just spent most of the day researching tax issues in the cart and see there are no switches to control what the cart displays.

It seems to be assumed that the cart will display the tax inclusive prices in the cart and this is not what my client wants.

If I make changes to the code I don't want them lost when I do an upgrade.

How do I contribute my changes to the source base?

Hi Don,

The changes to Taxes and how they are displayed is one of the key features on version 2.0.7 - this version is in the testing stage of version h.

If you have a testing site - you might like to update and test that version and see if it has a few new ideas you like.

One of the key issues is when and where the tax appears -

Thanks John

I will download the version and set up a test instance.  I can clone my site into a blank VPS fast enough.

It would be helpful if any one is able to point me to a brief set of instructions for migrating from 2.0.6. to the test version.  I did spend some time reading the dev thread last night but the first couple of pages I scanned seemed to be mainly about updates and changes.  (Sorry, hate being the new boy and having to ask the idiot questions, I know how frustrating it is for you all!)

I'm still looking for an answer to how I contribute changes.  I'm a developer on the DTC project and we use GIT there and submit changes using GIT patches to a dev mailing list.

To update ?

download a test version from here - http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files

expand the folder on your home computer and - upload both files via the joomla extensions.

That is it - you do not have to do anything complicated.

BUT - Back up your site first ---

back up... pffft... it's a production system with 2000+ products and 700+ users... think we'll be deploying a whole fresh dev instance before we go throwing alpha software at it ;)

Thanks John so much for the brief explanation.

I'm also having an issue with the production site loging users out part way though placing a large order.  I'm not sure how I should attempt to prove out what's causing this to happen or if it's a bug anyone else has seen.

Did you read this?
http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/wiki/Developer_guideline

Thank you. That is what I was looking for.  I knew if I just asked, someone would just provide a link to where ever you keep such info :)

I like the 'rules'... yip, can SOOOOOOOOO relate!

I haven't used SVN before, nor have I coded Joomla, so there's a learning curb for me there.   But I've got a growing number of Vmart sites and I can see that I'm going to need to know more about the code base because every customer seems to want something that isn't in the core by default.
