VM and Cookies

I have a quick question hopefully.
Does VM 2.__ require cookies to work?
Or is there a way to get vm 1.1.9 not require cookies?
Also one last thing does anyone know of a article on how to make a shopping system that doesn't require cookies?

Hi,

I understand both Joomla and VM2 use cookies, what steps are being taken to work in compliance with new EU Regulations on cookies (i.e. requiring approval to store cookies)?

The highly respected UK International Chamber of Commerce has produced a guide to the regulations and the use of cookies. Although not legally challenged or decided in court, I think it provides a sensible basis on which many web developers are working. 

For Joomla and Virtuemart temporary cookies are used to maintain the session, these would fall into category 1, ie cookies essential for site operation, and for these a warning should be given, eg in a popup (as in the PCPro site linked above) or in an obvious privacy statement. There could be an issue with multiple language sites, as the language could be argued as a preference, ie not essential for site operation, so would fall into category 3 and need probably need specific permission.

Cookies used for Analytics fall into category 2 and would be acceptable in a similar way to category one as long as they are not used for advert targetting.

The cookies causing most issues, and the ones that this ruling was really aimed at, are the category 4 third party advertising or ad tracking cookies. I have installed Kookie Grab to deal with these, but now it has been improved with extended functions, so am about to test this latest version. http://www.weblinksonline.co.uk/downloads/kookie-grab/viewdownload/4/5.html
