Product Template showing big image and small wrongly

As can be seen in the image below, the template does not seem to be showing the product correctly.

Earlier versions of VM came with a number of templates.  I'm not sure if I've missed installing something I should have.

Why would the template show two images and neither in the size it should be?

VM2 primarily uses the Joomla template. Most of VirtueMart specific layout settings are in the file ...\components\com_virtuemart\assets\css\vmsite-ltr.css
Also (but that is not VM2 specific), it is a good idea to upload images in the actual size you want to use. It doesn't make sense to upload an image of 1500px in width when you actually want to use 350px. Otherwise the large image has to be scaled down every time you want to display the 350px image.
The small second image is the link to open the product image into the lightbox. If you add additional product images, there will be additional small thumbnails below the product image.
