How to change the vertical category layout?

I did search on this but couldn't find anyone else having sourced a solution so trust someone might be able to point me in the right direction for fixing this.  I only have 4 categories currently but would at least prefer an option on how they're presented and at the moment my preference is towards horizontal rather than vertical.  I've had a look through the vmsite-ltr.css but am utterly lost on what to change if anything as very little made sense to me in it.

I do have the default # of categories in a row at 3 and am also using defaults for all VM styles on the same settings page.

I'm using VM 2.0.6 in Joomla 2.5.4 with a "Sunshine" template by vonfio.de
