Backend weirdness - desperate for some help

Joomla 2.5.4, VN 2.0.6

Had a fully functional site.
Struggling to understand vendor relationships, I renamed my superadmin account to client, and made a new one for myself.
Now the site is seriously broken:

1. I cannot delete orders (part of the record is removed, but the line item remains - discussed in several posts, no viable solution)
2. No-one can register (all email addresses are seen as invalid - discussed in a few posts, no solution at all)
3. One user somehow managed to register.  Their email address is listed in their profile.  They placed an order.  The order shows the superadmin email address under BillTo instead of theirs.  No confirmation email was sent to them, or the superadmins (email notifications used to work perfectly).

Any ideas?

The vendor ID for all products is 1

All the problems listed remain.
