Why is there a vm-search generated conanical when its not a search result page?

And how do I remove it and get the correct canonical which would be the same as the url:

No idea - but that canonical would surely not matter - surely google is NOT using search as a link generator

The idea was, imho, that the url tells vm to use the canonical URL of a product. But that got removed. So I will remove the reason for your observation, too.
