Change background color for category layout

Hi,

Using VM 3.0.8. and JM 3.4.1.

I'm trying to solve my problem with the white background in the product pictures. I would like to change the look of the category view like I described in the screenshot

1: White background like I did in paint in the attached picture;
2: Change of border-color and border-width.

The category layout shows around every product a small seperator line, like it's a table.
How can I change the background color within this line? I want it to have a white background only within the 'table' and not the whole page.

Hope this is sufficient info to make my point clear.
