Removing shipment and payment options from checkout

Does anyone know how I can remove the

No payment selected
Select payment

text from the checkout - I was thinking comment out the code but i don't know what page to look at?

No need for it to be on the checkout as I have enabled auto payment and shipment on confirmation page and its confusing for shoppers as it doesn't have any options

Also I want users to be able to login to their account form the hopepage - how can I do this? What module do I need to link a menu item to?
