Payment gateway - emulation?

So Im putting together this site for a client.
Never had to add in a custom payment module before. Im used to google checkout or paypal..

They dont have a module for Virtuemart.

I called and asked them how I would go about setting this up. She said that I would need to emulae an account.

anybody know what this entails for VM@?
