Being able to "ask a question about 'multiple' products

Hi - I've just posted this as a question in a separate bumped thread in a different area in case someone already has the solution to this - but:

I would like to run the site without prices (catalogue only, perhaps? although I'm not sure). The way it needs to operate is by asking for a quote, rather than an item having a set price - don't want prices in the system.

I would like the customer to be able to ask a question about more than product - it sort of currently does offer this functionality in a way but it only allows a single quote per item if you see what I mean.

In other words, if the user wants to ask about 2 items, they need to ask a question first about Product A, then they need to ask another question for product B.

I am wondering if it is possible to allow a user to do this more efficiently - similar to adding any products they are interested in to a list that they can then ask for a quote. This will either require the use of cookies or a database entry I guess. However, I want them to be able to do this without having to register.

The most logical way (in my head, at least) would seem to be to modify the add to cart in some way so that they can add multiple items to the cart (add to enquiry, in other words), checkout (?) whereupon the information will be emailed back.

Rather than adding an item, with a value, to a cart, it adds it to an enquiry. This may better explain what I mean. I'm 95% sure I cannot do this with VM.

P.S. I'm using V1.1.9 and the J! 1.5.25

the example the customer can only esquire and cannot purchase,     is that what you want, or should they be able to purchase too?
