Internal server error after replacing thumbnail in Shop

hi there, since two weeks Im busy setting up my website in Joomla and Virtuemart. Error after errors (very good learningcurve!) I finally got it working on the remote server.. step by step I'm building it now and after uploading an image (replace thumbnail) in the shop settings, I reloaded to test, and wham.... Internal server Error. I cannot access my admin panel and I don't know what to do. I googled, found somehting about .htaccess, renamed it, did not do anything, and renamed it back again. I don't know how I can correct this.
Can anybody pls pls help me? I'm searching the web now for 2 days...

I too had this issue and found that after trying to replace a thumb nail, it threw up the 500 internal server error. I checked and somehow the permissions on the main root folder had been changed to 777. I changed it back and was able to access my Joomla admin with an OMINOUS error message stating "Unable to delete 'public_html'.

This seems like a serious bug to me. Anyone?

Note: I'm using VM version:  2.0.0-RC-2i  upgraded from VM version g.

Also, now there's an error on the top of a categories edit page in red stating:  "vmError: Couldnt create thumb, file not found /home/xxxxxx/public_html/images/stories/virtuemart/category/conveyor system.jpg."  In that folder is a file name that is similar but doesn't have the blank space.

It has the error message multiple times for the various category images that were already in place, all with a blank space where the underscore used to be.

To add to the issue, now no products are displaying on the front end, and the same error message is displaying on the front end.

Same problem here

Joomla, version 2.5.9.
VM version 2.0.26d

Trying to replace product picture thumbnail, site goes white with Internal Server Error 500, and I can't access anything. Fortunately I have my backups up to date, but I'm stil searching for a solution to this problem.

Very strange. This works since years. Which urls do you have setup in the vm config for your images?
