I haven't installed the beta to have a go with yet, but I was wondering if 1.5 will include more SEO features?

I saw on a screenshot from the "What's new in VM1.5? Templates!" blog entry that the category page has customisable metadata, which is great! I was wondering if there any other SEO related features planned or that are already implemented in this new version?

Personally, I think it would be really useful to specific a 'Category Title' and a page title for the category separately (one for use in the template and backend and one for use in the actual page title).

Today google doesn't need meta data. If you want to optimize your product page i suggest you to write your product title and description based on the keyword that you want to target.

After that you need to do link building. I've been doing this for almost 5 years and always work for me.

Google picks "something" if you don't use meta tags, (apparently you are using the title meta tag, too) but if you do use meta tags, it gives you more control over the SERPS Google displays in the search results. Just read a little bit in the articles provided on Google's Webmaster Tools pages...

I agree with jjk. More importantly, we can't say 'Google doesn't need meta tags'. The Google algorithms are secret, and even the most experienced SEO people can only make estimations based on experience.

I think it is logical to assume that, as meta tags are easy to read, Google will use them. However, due to the mis-use, I doubt they have much weight nowadays. The same to some extent can be said of link building. It seems to depends on the market you're in though.

Let's say it this way: Google actually recommends to use meta tags! From my experience they become particularly important when your site doesn't have a large number of backlinks and when the site content doesn't change often, which is the case for many specialized shops.

Google also recommends some special tags for the presentation of products...

Thanks for the input guys! Although I didn't mean to turn this into another debate on how useful metatags are... I just think that it can only be useful to have metatag (and other SEO) features, even if some search engines don't rank them as highly any more.

Hi.

I've got a problem and i think that its important in Google SEO..
All pages got the same Joomla Meta description, even in Virtuemart Categories and Products... testing in google search all got the same description.
If i insert any link in Facebook or Google Plus got the same problem.

There is any way to call the short product description or category description to do that "job" by giving the correct meta description in all that links (and changing the joomla default ) ?

No such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer. I won't ask if I know the answer or found it using the search as you suggested.
