Hi all.

I have a client (www.mx5city.co.uk) who is using another cart and we are moving on. Before picking another cart solution I have a few questions though...

As VirtueMart is free what's the support like?
Is there a paid, or paid support option?
If so, what's that support like (if different from the free version)?
Does VirtueMart allow for individual items to be optimised for Google?
Is the layout customisable?
Will VirtueMart accept SagePay as a payment processor?
Can I export from Seber Cart into VirtueMart?

These would be a good start to moving to VirtueMart if anyone can help answer them...

Many thanks...

Hi all.

The post's been read 44 times but no response. I'm wondering if this is indicative of VirtueMart's support...?

The questions are straight forward (I hope) and I was hoping to get a quick response.

Support is good as long as you can do some on your own.
There is a paid Option. I have never used it.
Individual items can be optimized if you use Forest Meta Hack. (Thats what I use)
Vmart uses a template system just like smarty etc.
Sagepay I do not know. Try searching

I am not sure about the migration from sebar. BUT anything is always possible with SQL etc.

Check out http://www.shopping-cart-migration.com/   to see if they have a migration script.

This is the point though... I'm a web designer and I have a request that I'm willing to pay for but when there are other extensions available I simply can't afford to use my time looking for responses so I summarise them in a post that gets no attention from the developers.

Fills me with confidence.

Sorry, but you are not looking over the project and give a lot of assumptions, and it is not very easy to answer to your assumptions.

1. Please look over the mainsite www.virtuemart.net, you will find all the information needed.

2. VirtueMart is a project that was originally and is still done in the free time of the developers, most of the original devs today have jobs and family and so you may not find them anymore here on the forum but they are still working on the project too.

3. VirtueMart is NOT like all the other shop systems that are offered as a free and a paid version, with certain features missing in the free version or a paid version that is based on paying a support membership while the code is still GPL. It has yet become a very professional shopsystem and when you take a look over the "Live sites" forum, you will find some and even more very professional shops.

4. Your question about SagePay can easily be answered with visiting the VMED where all the VM Extensions are listed. So you can see there also what types of extras and add ons are available for free or commercially.

5. Sorry, 44 views and not one answered? When you had a support ticket you paid for running and 44 paid devs looked but do not want to answer, okay, but this is a user forum!

Your questions just can all be answered without that others have to spend their valuable time with doing a real due dilligence, with using the mainsite, extension site and with reading over this forum. No one can by the way come like "why no one answering", as no one is in the position to order someone in a forum that is run by the users of a software and by a dev team that is doing the core work for free and not for a fee. Yet some offer services related to VM or extensions, but the whole core is developed by the free time of free people.

6. The "paid version" is hardly discussed and is still not an official paid version, an official paid version does not exist!

7. When you look for someone whom you can pay to do a shop for you, you may post your project in the Commercial Jobs section, but as this is also not a "managed freelance.com offer", you may get offers, but should not await some. Yet there are many freelance site where you can post your project btw.

You said

If this is the case then open-source is definitely not for you. You should go for a commercial e-commerce extension or pay a web developer to produce a Virtuemart based cart for you. Otherwise I think you might waste a lot of your time (and probably other people's too).

Open-source is based on a give and take community where support is provided when people are able to give it. It also needs quite a significant investment of time.

In short, open-source projects are not suited to people who do not have the time to learn them and work with them.
