Why so many FedEx modules?

Does anyone why there are so many different FedEx hacks?  I want to find the best one to use.  I can't find the latest or best one because it's been modified so much.  I'm trying to just simply ship FedEx internationally and make sure it calculates the dimensions of the boxes being shipped.   Can anyone please point me to the best version / FedEx module to use?
