This site is one of several currently in the making, using the older virtuemart 1.0.x version.
We didn't have use for the cart functionality. I have integrated an external cart system (webmart.de) and tweaked lots of little bits, using the thumbnails as category pictures and making those click-able and linking to product detail pages, using big product images in browse pages (ie: www.hexenladen-hamburg.de/Geleefruechte-suess-lecker.html), etc.. Come to think of it, I could never update the site without having to re-do every single file, lol.. ohwell. Don't fix whats not broken
Its been a good learning experiance about the internals of virtuemart, hacking away at various PHP files. Our next shop will use the internal checkout system but thusfar the whole user registration bit is a bit confusing and un-logical.

Normally not such a fan of frames but this seems to work fine, with the alternative being the cart opening in a seperate window/tab...this has my preference.
