Making a simple shipping module

I wanted to make a shipping module where the costumer input the cost by them self.  I tried to look at the developer pdf, but my php skill is not there yet. I also tried to look through forum for any tutorial but no luck. What do you need exactly to put in to the php?

One of the simplest shipping methods is Flex.php  You should be able to use it as an example.
