Product price not affected by custom field

Using a custom template, I have a product with a custom field which affects the product price.

The correct final price appears in the checkout page, but on the product page, the price is not changed live, when the user changes the custom field selection.

(This works correctly in the old J2.5/VM2.6 eshop that we are migrating from)

What would be the probable causes of this?

PS2: The problem occurs on a J3.8.10/VM3.2.15 installation.

It works on current VM using the default templates - eg see http://demo.virtuemart.net/h20-jacket-detail

Maybe an issue with your custom template?

check for JS errors as the price change is done thru vmprices.js

or check for target element name changes between templates
