Adding shopper fields to vendor registration email

Hi all, I am looking to add a shopper field to the email a vendor gets once a new customer orders. It's to determine whether or not their account needs to be checked, verified and put into a relevant shopper group.

Ideally I would like a function in VM whereby a shopper can request their shopper group and anything other than default requires admin authorisation but cannot see how this is done - I think just adding the shopper field to the email may do for now.

The field name is "customer_type" I copied across one of the lines in the html form already as "echo vmText::_('COM_VIRTUEMART_TYPEUSER') . ' : ' . $this->user->customer_type . $li;" which does show the vmText I set in overrides but just not the value they specify. Can any of you give advice on how this is done please.
