J3.4.8+VM3.0.14
Can anyone tell me what is the exact meaning of the URL box in the product configuration page?
Is it for an external URL, for the canonical URL or what?

STUPID ANSWER : check your reference guide ;)

REAL ANSWER :
I think currently it's not used, but can be, to add a link to the original real manufacturer product page(or why not a PDF).
In old VM 1.1.x , if this was filled, the page redirected to this URL, but i think it's not anymore the case currently.

Ah ahahah!

You are right, Studio 42!
But the problem is that I investigated this box 4 years ago, when VirtueMart 2 has been released.
From then, many things changed, and now I don't know which is the meaning of that box.
To be completely true, in my VirtueMart 2 manual I said that this box can only used for specific templates.
Now you say:
QuoteIn old VM 1.1.x , if this was filled, the page redirected to this URL, but i think it's not anymore the case currently.
so no information seem to be available.
I'm now updating the VirtueMart 3 Reference Guide (to include news from 3.0.14), and I would like to update the description of the URL box as well.
Can anyone help?

I gave you all informations.
What you need more ?
Try to fill this with a real URL and check if this redirect.
If not, then my answer is right, else it's same as old VM 1.1

ClaudioRomeo

I tried.
It seems to do nothing.
But...
Is it possible that i made something wrong...
If not, why this box is still there?

The simple presence of this box, IMHO, can misleading the users.

This stay here, in case of you want to use it as old VM, or add link  to the real manufacturer page for eg.
Eg. You sold iphone 6 then you can add link to the apple iphone 6 page and in your template , add an overide to include this.
If you want redirect, then you can control this value and redirect 303 to another page, eg to an Joomla article or why not to another shop.
So VM1.1 had a default behavior, vm 3 not.

Thank you, Studio 42.
Now it's really clear.
Thank you again
