VirtueMart 3.0.12
JM 3.4.8

So I start from scratch using the hottest/ stable versions I could find ...

Could I import all old (VM 2.6)products, catagories etc by coping the old (VM2.6 ) to the new clean: public_html/../images/stories/virtuemart and than us the new TOOLS  tels me :
Found prior migration process, resume migration maxScriptTime 54 maxMemoryLimit 114 and no producs etc are added ?

Any useful suggestions are welcome ;-)

Just use the old tables, then install new vm3 over it, thats it.

vm3 (in tools update tables) does anything for you. The migration is only need for vm1 to vm2

Okay so the procedure would be?
-coping the old (VM2.6 ) to the new clean: public_html/../images/stories/virtuemart and than
-than go to old dB > MySQL > export > advanced > select ALL? VM tabels, check "blabla" keys
-than go to new dB > MySQL import and enjoy the magic ??

Thanks in advance for you wisdom Milbo!

This is what I end up doing ...

Copy old VM2.6 Joomla 2.6 Site, ( remember to adjust temp / logs / save path )
Upgrade Joomla to 3.laatste
Saw to my horror that there was no VM menu though the products etc where still there ...
Upgraded VM2.6 to JM latest ... and SOME was working again ...

Still loads of errors ...
That's why I like the clean install and then VM content import ...

To be continued ...

Update VirtueMart 2.x to 3.x first. Then update Joomla 2.x to 3.x  and update any other J2.x extensions (eg plugins) to J3.x versions - that's the way I do it, then solve templating issues.

Yepp, as the other gurus say. You cannot update joomla first, because then your vm version is not compatible to joomla. But vm3 is compatible to both, so when you first update to vm3, anything is simpler.
