Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone may be able to help me with this question.

We have an online store running Virtuemart. We need a SEO component to change some of the links on the site from, for example, http://www.shop.com/product-name-detail.html to http://www.shop.com/product-name.html

What I need is an easy-to-use SEO component that will allow me to do this i.e. easily change the links to products and articles.

Does anyone have any recommendations. Happy to pay for the component but an easy to use (simple) system is the key requirement.

Kind regards

James

you can remove the -detail using the standard VM configuration/SEO  "Seo Suffix"

You can also change the  Meta Information for a product using the product VM configuration in the description Tab

Might not be the best idea. I think this is still valid: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=107747.msg360317#msg360317

yes .. if you have a cat and a product with the same slug there will be clash

if your sure there is no clash then I guess you can remove the -detail

I think it's more safe to disable the Joomla .html suffix in Joomla configuration and replace the VM -detail with .html.

Hi guys,

Thank you for your ideas so far. What I'd really like to do is have a component where I can go in and specify the shortened URLs e.g. if I could have a list or URLs and change, for example, shop.com/product-name-detail.html to shop.com/this-great-product

I.e. it would not matter what the product category or product name was in VM, I would be able to change the URL to whatever I wanted.

Is this possible?

Kind regards

Hi jenkinhill,

Doesn't the redirect component only really work for moved URLs e.g. if I had a URL www.shop.com/old-link but then updated the site and moved the page to www.shop.com/new-link, the redirect component would automatically redirect customers to the new URL is they had clicked on a link to the old one?

What I'm after is a component to change URLs, shorten them.

Some of the shops URLs are too long: www.shop.com/category/product-name-that-is-too-long.html

I'd like to change the URL to www.shop.com/a-short-name

Does that make sense?

Kind regards

James

I'd like to change the URL to www.shop.com/a-short-name

Just type a short name in the 'Product Alias' field in the 'Product Information' tab.

Because this would only change the product part of the URL. It will not remove the category from the URL.
