Virtuemart front page isn't showing

I've installed virtuemart and have even followed the steps in assigning virtuemart to a menu item but for some crazy reason when I click on said menu item, it sends me to an error 404 page. Please help! I'm even willing to give log in credentials at this point. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. I've looked in forums but none of the other solutions worked for me.
