Safe Path

I have a brand new install of Joomla 3.4.1 with VirtueMart 3.0.9 and am having safe path issues. I have created the safe path but it says its not accessible. I've changed permissions to 777 and it still hasn't helped.

You should never need to use 777. It is like opening a big wide door for hackers. Are you trying to set up the safe directory at or below the Joomla root?

I tried both but it still wouldn't work
